A little history lesson for your consideration (cuz we care/live for the lore):
This sweater lands squarely in the mid-1980s to early-1990s “fancy sweater” boom. During that time, knitwear brands realized something magical: people wanted sweaters they could wear instead of evening tops (we love this for them).
So brands like Mister Leonard specialized in sweaters that were:
heavily beaded
covered in sequins and appliqué
meant for cocktail/dinner/holiday wear
These weren’t casual sweaters… they were knits masquerading as evening wear.
